The Center for the Church and the Black Experience celebrates Black History Month 2013

1945 – PRESIDENT JEAN-CLAUDE DUVALIER FLEES HAITI 

Twenty-eight years of one-family rule end in Haiti, when President Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier flees the Caribbean nation.



1974 - GRENADA BECOMES INDEPENDENT FROM THE UNITED KINGDOM

The Caribbean nation of Grenada becomes independent from the United Kingdom.

1991 – ARISTIDE FIRST ELECTED AS PRESIDENT OF HAITI

Haiti's first democratically-elected president, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, is sworn in.
