The Center for the Church and the Black Experience celebrates Black History Month 2013

1966 – FIRST AFRICAN-AMERICAN GOVERNOR OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE BOARD

Andrew Brimmer is appointed by President Johnson to become the first African-American governor of the Federal Reserve Board.




1989 – RON BROWN BECOMES FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN TO LEAD A MAJOR AMERICAN POLITICAL PARTY

Ron Brown is elected chairman of the Democratic National Committee becoming the first African American to lead a major American political party.
