Advent Anticipation and Action

Advent is a time of anticipation. We wait. We live with expectancy, preparing to receive anew the reality of God’s love made visible. We also act. Anticipation and action are not mutually exclusive. In fact, what we anticipate can shape how we act. We at Garrett-Evangelical seminary are entering the time when we celebrate our 160th anniversary and we are encouraging our friends to join in the “Spontaneous Acts of Kindness Initiative.”

What better time than advent to anticipate and to act? What better time to share on behalf of one another? Our extended community can plant random seeds of kindness and faithfulness. We’ve already borne witness to how this phenomenon catches on.  So, let’s band together—click here and submit your stories of kindness and faithfulness on the Garrett-Evangelical website.  Help us start toward our goal of achieving 160 acts of kindness for our 160th anniversary.

We wish you and yours the joy that can only be experienced from anticipation that results in action, from giving.

May the blessings of faith and peace be with you through this season and in the new year.

Dr. Philip A. Amerson, President
Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary

In 2013, Garrett-Evangelical will celebrate 160 years of creating skilled, bold, and articulate leaders for the church, the academy, and the world. As a part of our celebrations, we are asking you for nominations of individuals who have exemplified bold leadership through their work in the church, academy, or world. To learn more and nominate a person, go to 160 Great Alumni.  In addition, we are collecting acts of kindness stories from students, faculty, staff and friends of the seminary. One hundred and sixty stories to be exact. We encourage you to share your story by clicking on 160 Acts of Kindness.
